“Well-Behaved Monsters” — a peek inside the paperback!

Well, at long last we have a paperback prototype of Well-Behaved Monsters to hold in our hands…and I think it looks really good! As someone who has single-handedly bootstrapped this stuff through the years, the results are a mixed bag to say the least. But maybe I’m finally starting to somewhat figure this design aspect out. This feels like my best looking cover thus far. At any rate, when I pick it up, it doesn’t immediately scream, “eh, I can tell some self-publishing hack made this,” which is really all most of us are shooting for.

As you may or may not know, Monsters concerns a bunch of twentysomething singles out on the nightlife scene, attempting to navigate the dating minefield. Specifically, I wanted to examine the unavoidable deception that always accompanies this courtship ritual, the baked in layers of cultural b.s. that comes with it, but more importantly the differences in how guys and girls think and then also how what everyone’s responding to often clashes sharply with what they purport to find attractive. Plus how these views are slippery ones to begin with and often shift quite a bit over time.
